FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The banged-up New York Jets shook up their roster a bit.Left tackle Ryan Clady was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with a shoulder injury, and wide receiver Devin Smith was activated from the physically unable to perform list. The team also signed defensive lineman Anthony Johnson from New Englands practice squad to the active roster and waived defensive lineman Jarvis Jenkins. Offensive tackle Zach Sterup was also signed to the practice squad.Clady was acquired in the offseason from Denver to replace the retired DBrickashaw Ferguson, who never missed a snap in a game or practice due to injury in 10 seasons. Clady, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, was coming off a torn knee ligament that sidelined him all of last year, but he was ready to start the season for the Jets.Clady has been dealing with an ailing rotator cuff, however, since injuring it at Kansas City in Week 3. He was active at Miami last Sunday, but only played on special teams. Ben Ijalana will replace him, as he did against the Dolphins. It got so bad to where it wasnt getting any better with treatment and he was pretty much playing out there with one arm, coach Todd Bowles said. It wasnt getting any better, he became weaker as a matter of fact, so we just had to put him (on IR).Clady signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Jets, including a $10 million club option for next season which most likely will not be picked up.Smith tore a ligament in his right knee during a game last December and has been working his way back since. Per NFL rules regarding players on PUP, the Jets had until Wednesday to decide whether to activate Smith, place him on season-ending injured reserve or release him.Well see how he fits in the game plan, Bowles said. We have a bunch of receivers now, so its going to be hard fighting for playing time right there, but well sort it out during the week. The second-year receiver told The Associated Press last Friday he was being patient while he awaited the teams decision. This is kind of how I put it: Whatever decision that they make, theres a reason for it, Smith said. Im just going to be ready for whatever the situation is. But if they do decide to bring me back and have me play, Ill be ready.Smith, a second-round pick last year out of Ohio State, had just nine catches for 115 yards and a touchdown before the knee injury last season.Johnson played in four games this season with the Patriots, and has 10 tackles and a fumble recovery in 11 career games. He was signed by Miami as an undrafted free agent out of LSU in 2014, and played seven games with the Dolphins. After being among Miamis final cuts the following summer, Johnson was signed to Washingtons practice squad last November.Johnson signed with the Patriots and made their roster out of training camp before being released, signed to the practice squad, promoted to the active roster and then waived and re-signed to the practice squad.Hell replace Jenkins on the Jets roster. Jenkins, signed to a two-year, $6 million deal in the offseason, had nine tackles in nine games for New York as a backup. He previously played with Washington and Chicago after being a second-round pick of the Redskins out of Clemson in 2011.Anthony was a guy we were looking at for a little while, Bowles said. And we tried to upgrade with that and it came at a good time when he was available, so we signed him.Sterup replaces wide receiver Myles White, released from the practice squad Tuesday. The 6-foot-9, 318-pound tackle was signed by Kansas City as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska this year. He was suspended four games earlier this season for violating the NFLs policy on performance enhancers. Sterup was released from the Chiefs practice squad on Tuesday.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFLJachai Polite Jets Jersey . Betty Smothers, a Baton Rouge police officer, was killed in a robbery attempt, leaving an 18-year-old Dunn to raise five younger siblings. In a statement released to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Sunday night about the incident in which three police officers were fatally shot and three others injured, Dunn asked to stop the violence. My heart breaks for the families and law enforcement officers in Baton Rouge who have lost loved ones, Dunn said. I have been in similar shoes -- it will change their lives and leave them reeling with questions for years to come. It is a shame -- so many officers who are out there on the front lines have tremendous heart for what they do. These acts of violence dont solve anything, and if my voice can add to the movement to stop it, then Id consider that a good thing. The shooting of the police officers on Sunday came less than two weeks after Alton Sterling died in an incident with the police in Baton Rouge that was captured on video and sparked protests across the country. It also follows the shooting deaths of five Dallas police officers earlier this month. The reality of our world is that there is a lot of unrest in our communities, particularly where police shootings are happening, Dunn said in the statement. I feel close to this subject -- it has touched me very personally. I speak for no one other than myself and I support law enforcement. I also support the community of Baton Rouge because they were there for me and my family.dddddddddddd If I could have any effect, Id ask the community to stop the violence, to cool down and to come together to figure this out. There is nothing we cant do, but we have to work together to make something positive come from yet another tragedy in my hometown.?Dunn was drafted in 1997 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after a stellar college career at Florida State. He played for five seasons with the Bucs before moving to Atlanta to play for the Falcons. He returned to Tampa Bay in 2008 for his final NFL season as a professional player. In his 2008 autobiography, Running For My Life, Dunn detailed his mothers murder and how his battles with depression throughout his life transformed his journey. In his statement, Dunn encouraged the Baton Rouge community to act as a method of healing. ?We cant just sit around and talk about how horrible all this is -- we have to do something. And that means it always starts with the individual, Dunn said. One of the things I am doing is taking the role of fatherhood very seriously so I can raise a son who makes a positive contribution.?And then we have to give justice a chance to work. When people are intentional about their use of guns against others, we have to make sure the message that crime doesnt pay means something.Dunn has received local and national recognition for his philanthropic work off the field, including the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2005, the 2010 Heisman Humanitarian Award and the 2011 Jefferson Humanitarian Award for Public Service.
