WASHINGTON -- Dont expect a change-the-name movement for Washingtons new Arena Football League team. While there has been questions around the name of Dan Snyders Redskins in the NFL, owners of the expansion AFL franchise went in a very different direction in calling the team the Washington Valor. Ted Leonsis and officials from his Monumental Sports & Entertainment organization unveiled the name, logo and colors on Thursday.Leonsis said the name stands for what the franchise hopes to build when it begins play in the spring of 2017 and holds a mirror up to the community and fan base.It calls out the best in all of us to be brave and strong and celebrate our country but also creates an identity locally, Leonsis said. I think our community in D.C. and Maryland and Virginia will see a lot of themselves in the name and theyll be very, very proud of it.The Valor, who will be the AFLs ninth team, have a V logo that features the head of an eagle and three stars. Predictably red, white and blue are among the teams colors along with graphite, all of which managing partner Roger Mody said had significance.Monumental also owns the NBAs Wizards, NHLs Capitals and WNBAs Mystics, which all have red, white and blue as their colors. The Valor will join them at Verizon Center in downtown Washington.Valor represents bravery and courage, and to be courageous one must be strong, committed and truthful, Mody said. It was important that it represented the nations capital, the vibrancy of the city and its sports teams.Coach Dean Cokinos said his team, which still doesnt have any players, will be tough, physical and play fast. Monumental hired outside consultants to help come up with the name, which Leonsis said feels absolutely right.Commissioner Scott Butera said the ownership group was responsible for choosing the name, adding that the league approved it.They know the community better than we do, so its important that we have a name that we think is going to be well-respected by the community, that represents that area, fits the demography of that area, Butera said. The league would only step in if there was something that we felt was inappropriate or didnt represent the city well.Recent AFL team names include the L.A. Kiss, owned by Gene Simmons, and the Portland Steel.Clelin Ferrell Jersey .Y. -- Marcell Dareus and the Buffalo Bills defence made life miserable for Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco. At 5-5 in the tiebreaker, Carreno Busta patted a return into the net and Raonic sealed the set with an ace.He secured the only break in the second set when his opponent scooped a low shot into the net from the baseline.Raonic, a runner-up here to top-ranked Novak Djokovic two years ago, sealed victory with consecutive aces.Earlier, Tomas Berdych avoided another early exit by beating Joao Sousa 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 to reach the third round. At 4-4 in the deciding set, Berdych trailed 15-40 and saved two break points.Although Berdych won the Shenzhen Open in China last month, the Czech players form dropped sharply with first-round exits at the Japan Open and the Erste Bank Open in Vienna. In between, there was a second-round loss at the Shanghai Masters.Losing so many ranking points forced Berdych out of the top 10 for the first time since reaching the 2010 Wimbledon final. It also leaves him needing to reach the semifinals in Paris to have a chance of qualifying for the season-ending ATP finals in London -- a difficult task considering he could face Andy Murray in the quarterfinals. If you dont play your best, you dont really deserve to be there, Berdych said. Luckily, Im healthy. Who would have said that Id be answering questions about Londdon when I was in the hospital in Cincinnati? This is a nice bonus.dddddddddddderdych was referring to the appendicitis that forced him out of this years U.S. Open.Even though his play looked patchy at times against Sousa, at least his serving was strong with 14 aces, including a couple of booming ones on second serve.Berdych is hopeful that working with coach Goran Ivanisevic -- the big-serving Croat who won Wimbledon in 2001 -- will help improve his game.I like his approach and how he tries to simplify things for me, the 31-year-old Berdych said. Hopefully I can get to the point where I can start to use his experience in all the big matches hes played.Berdych, the 2005 Paris Masters champion, will next face either 10th-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut or Gilles Simon.Seven players are vying for the two remaining spots in London.Dominic Thiem and Marin Cilic, who won the Swiss Indoors on Sunday, held the last two places before this week. David Goffin, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Lucas Pouille and Bautista Agut are the other contenders playing in Paris.John Isner had 14 aces as he reached the second round by beating Mischa Zverev 7-6 (8), 6-4. Isner saved the only break point he faced in the first set and broke Zverevs serve early in the second.Isner will next play 15th-seeded David Ferrer, who has beaten the big-serving American seven times in eight meetings. Isners only win, however, was in the quarterfinals in Paris five years ago. Also in the first round, Jack Sock beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-2, 7-6 (3); Feliciano Lopez defeated Pierre-Hugues Herbert 7-6 (3), 6-4; Nicolas Mahut beat Martin Klizan 4-6, 6-4, 6-3; and Viktor Troicki saved two match points before defeating Adrian Mannarino 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5).
