DALLAS -- The Dallas Mavericks have made their biggest free agent play in a busy off-season, adding shooting guard Monta Ellis to a backcourt thats still crowded even after a couple of setbacks. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said in an email Saturday that Ellis has agreed to a contract. It is reportedly a three-year deal valued between $25 million and $30 million. The deal with Ellis was reached after first-round pick Shane Larkin broke his right ankle in summer league practice Friday. Dallas also reportedly is backing out of a three-year, $9 million deal with Devin Harris because of a toe injury. Ellis figures to start alongside point guard Jose Calderon, another free agent who signed a four-year, $29 million deal. The 27-year-old Ellis averaged 19.2 points with Milwaukee last season but had the lowest 3-point shooting percentage among eligible players at 28.7 per cent. Calderon had the highest at 46.1 per cent. Ellis began his career with Golden State and was on the team that shocked the 67-win Mavericks in the first round of the 2007 playoffs. He started five of the six games against Dallas but came off the bench in all five games of a second-round loss to Utah. Ellis didnt return to the playoffs until last season with the Bucks, who were swept by Miami in the first round. The Warriors traded him to Milwaukee late in the 2011-12 season, and he declined an $11 million option to return to the Bucks. The Mavericks still have a glaring need at centre after Dwight Howard chose Houston and Andrew Bynum went to Cleveland. Dallas figures to sign a centre from a dwindling list of alternatives topped by Samuel Dalembert. Even without Larkin and Harris, who started his career in Dallas as a No. 5 pick nine years ago, the Mavericks will open camp with at least five newcomers at guard after deciding they werent happy with the one-year experiment of Darren Collison and O.J. Mayo last season. The Mavericks added another free agent in Gal Mekel, the second Israeli-born player in the NBA. He played professionally in his home country after a two-season stint at Wichita State that ended in 2008. Dallas took two guards in last months draft. The Mavericks traded down twice and ended up with Larkin, the son of Hall of Fame shortstop Barry Larkin, at No. 18. In another trade for the 43rd pick, they got Ricky Ledo, who sat out his only season at Providence for academic reasons.Stan Smith Sko Tilbud . He still knows, cornerback Captain Munnerlyn said. You made a mistake, hes still seen it.Zimmer roamed the indoor field and instructed players as usual during the portion of the workout that was open to the media, eager to resume his responsibilities in an attempt to help steer the Vikings (6-6) back on a track for the playoffs following six losses in their past seven games.Eye patch or no eye patch, wide receiver Stefon Diggs said, hes the same coach. The 60-year-old Zimmer had to stay home from the game against Dallas last Thursday because of the emergency operation the night before, one of multiple procedures hes had over the past six weeks.Zimmer is expected to travel with the team for the game on Sunday at Jacksonville, barring any setback. To have him back, to talk to us and to be our leader, man, it was great. It kind of motivated guys that weve got to get this thing going, Munnerlyn said. The Vikings didnt make Zimmer available to reporters, but in an interview with the teams flagship radio station KFAN-FM he said he predictably struggled with having to watch the game on TV rather than directing it from the sideline. When Zimmer addressed the players the day of the Cowboys game, he became emotional and struggled to finish his speech. His message?Basically that I would never let them down, that I would never abandon them, that I could be with them every possible moment that I could be, Zimmer told KFAN, and it was just unfortunate that this is what this has to be this one particular time.dddddddddddd.Zimmer also said hes been compliant with the doctors orders, despite the public assumption that hes too proud or stubborn to slow down and take proper care of himself.I understand the seriousness of the issue and what it is, Zimmer said.If they tell me its in my best interest to sit in a box during the game or its in my best interest to not go to the game or theres a possibility of me losing this eyesight in this eye, then Im going to listen to them.Zimmer said hes currently not supposed to cast his gaze above the horizon or lift heavy objects, but for now hes OK to take the team flight to Florida because in his latest operation there was an oil-based substance injected into his eye after a fluid removal instead of an oxygen-based substance. His follow-up appointment revealed the retina had re-attached.Everything looks good, he said. I have to have this monitored probably weekly now for the next several months, but Im just trying to get it fixed.Game notesMissing from practice for the Vikings was safety Harrison Smith, who was on crutches with a boot on his left foot after the previous game. ... Center Joe Berger (concussion) was back on the field after being sidelined against Dallas. ... Punt returner Marcus Sherels (rib) also returned to practice after missing the past two games.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
