CHICAGO -- From the infield to the outfield, the Chicago White Sox are playing much better defence than they did during their listless start. And its no coincidence that the wins are coming in bunches now. Dayan Viciedo and Alex Rios each threw out a runner at the plate, and the White Sox beat Alex Sanabia and the Miami Marlins 5-3 on Sunday to sweep their weekend series. "Ive just always believed youve got to be able to play defence so you dont have those things happen," manager Robin Ventura said. "You know the game changes and guys are still on base, youre still down an out, so we just like our guys to stay with it." The White Sox have won five of six and nine of 12 to climb back to .500 for the first time since they were 4-4 through April 10. Dylan Axelrod (3-3) benefited from a two-run homer by Adam Dunn and a tiebreaking two-run double from Alejandro De Aza while earning his third consecutive victory. It was the first three-game series sweep for Chicago since it won three in a row at Minnesota in September. "Every win is very important. Every win means a lot," Rios said. "Sweeping teams like this, you have to do it. You have to sweep teams like this and keep it going for the next games." Sanabia returned to the mound for the first time since cameras caught him spitting on the ball during a start against Philadelphia last Monday. He said he didnt know it was illegal, and it looks as if Major League Baseball has no plans to discipline the 24-year-old right-hander. Sanabia (3-7) pitched into the seventh inning against the Phillies to end a personal five-game losing streak. But he was unable to sustain that success against Chicago (24-24). Then he said after the game that he was headed to the disabled list with a right groin problem. "As of right now there is no point to continue to pitch or what not," he said. "It is only getting weaker. I dont want to make it worst and be something serious instead of something minor." Sanabia also said the spitting incident had no effect on his performance. "I didnt think about it," he said. "To me it wasnt anything serious." Dunn drove the first pitch he saw in the first inning over the wall in left for an opposite-field shot that snapped an 0-for-17 rut. The big slugger, who is playing through a back issue, has six homers in his last 12 games and 12 overall this season. De Aza came up with a two-out drive into the gap in left-centre in the second, lifting the White Sox to a 4-2 lead. Marcell Ozuna, Justin Ruggiano and Nick Green each had two hits and an RBI for Miami, which has dropped five straight and 12 of 14. At 13-37, the Marlins are off to the worst 50-game start in franchise history and the poorest in the majors since the 2006 Kansas City Royals had the same record, according to STATS. No NL team has started this slowly since the 1987 San Diego Padres were 11-39. Sanabia allowed four runs and six hits in four innings. Ozuna, Chris Coghlan and Ruggiano started the second with consecutive singles to bring home one run, but Coghlan was easily cut down by Viciedo while trying to score on Ruggianos base hit into left field. The throw beat Coghlan to the plate, and Hector Gimenez held on when the centre fielder made an attempt to dislodge the ball. Rios bobbled Ruggianos single to right in the sixth, then recovered in time to throw out Ozuna in a close play at home. Marlins manager Mike Redmond came out for a brief argument before returning to the dugout. "The second one, we have to do a better job of running the bases," Redmond said. "If we were a little more aggressive rounding third that shouldnt even been a play so then you leave it up to the mercy of the umpire on bang-bang play." Rios tacked on an RBI single in the eighth to extend Chicagos lead to 5-3, giving the White Sox some momentum going into four straight games against the crosstown Cubs beginning Monday night. "I definitely dont think weve played our best baseball," Dunn said, "and if people think that we have I think theyre crazy because we started out playing terrible defence. Offensively, we just havent really got it going, but yet, were right in the middle of it." Axelrod was charged with three runs and six hits in 5 1-3 innings. Matt Lindstrom, Matt Thornton and Jesse Crain then combined to get the ball to Addison Reed, who worked the ninth for his 17th save in 18 chances. Crain pitched a perfect eighth to run his scoreless streak to 20 consecutive outings covering 18 1-3 innings. Reed has converted his last seven save opportunities. Nike Air Max 97 Billig . -- Ohio States Urban Meyer has never had any issue acclimating to the biggest stages in college football. RIO DE JANEIRO -- Leticia Romero isnt alone at the Rio Games, just close to it.The Florida State guard, who is playing for Spain is one of two current college players in the Olympics. The other is UConn guard Kia Nurse, who has been making headlines for Canada. Neither is a stranger to international competition, but this is the first time for both to be on the grand stage. They are flourishing. The college guards have already helped their countries advance to the quarterfinals and will square off Sunday when Spain faces Canada with second place in the group on the line. While youth has dominated at the pool and gymnastics, its rare to see on the basketball court. The U.S., which is trying for a sixth consecutive gold medal, hasnt had a college player on its roster since 1988 when Vicky Bullett and Bridgette Gordon helped the Americans win gold. For me its a dream coming true, Romero told The Associated Press after Spain clinched a spot in the quarterfinals. At 21 years old, I never thought Id be here in the Olympics. Im very lucky to be here to learn from this team. Its amazing how they play and practice every day, thats going to help me next season when I come back to Florida State again and for the future. The two will meet again on the court when Florida State hosts UConn on Nov. 14 to open up the college basketball season.Playing UConn for me is a great thing, said Romero, who is Spains fourth leading scorer despite playing just 13 minutes a game. Im looking forward to that too, but Im here right now and focused on the Olympics.Romero and Nurse said they dont really know each other off the court, but definitely have a healthy respect for one another. They will be in similar situations next year in college, taking on big leadership roles for their teams. They have been soaking in the ways that the veterans on their Olympic teams have been doing it.I try and learn everything I can from them, said Nurse, who is leading Canada wiith 11.dddddddddddd.8 points a game. Incredible leaders and teammates. You get to learn and see your weaknesses exposed all the time. Im an upperclassmen already, which is extremely odd to me. I have to step into a leadership role up there and try and take away from these guys how they do it.Romero said she is trying to watch teammate Laia Palau.Im amazed by how she manages everything, Romero said. How she organizes the team, does everything for the team, makes everyone close to each other. For me coming to Florida State, I want to be that kind of player that can bring everyone together and make everyone a better player. The pair have had a great time away from the court too. They both got to participate in the opening ceremonies, an experience neither will forget. It was crazy, Romero said. I cant even describe it. To be there, just something I always watched on TV and its a dream. I was telling (Florida State coach) Sue Semrau it was like a one-minute walk, that felt like 5 seconds. Watching the people the crowd, my teammates, everybody. All the teams it was overwhelming.Semrau flew down to Rio to watch her point guard play. She is playing with the level of confidence that I havent seen before, Semrau said in a text to the AP. Im excited to see her continue her growth at Florida State and beyond.Romero also got to fulfill another lifelong dream while waiting to enter the stadium, a photo with tennis great Rafael Nadal. This coming a few days after she got a chance to meet Felipe VI the King of Spain. Its a big deal both. But I would rather take a picture with Nadal, she said laughing. Hes one of my heroes, but the King of Spain is a big deal too.Yes, its good to be an Olympian.---Online:AP Summer Games website: http://summergames.ap.org/---Follow Doug on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/dougfeinberg ' ' '
