After advising Zubayr for the JCB Triumph Hurdle at 16/1 in last weeks blog, Sky Sports News HQs Alex Hammond attempts to pinpoint more value. Colin Tizzard revealed at his stable tour that Theatre Guide had worked well with Cue Card prior to his victory at Kempton on Saturday; does that have any bearing on Cue Cards chances of landing the £1million bonus in the Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup?Well, as you know, I fancied Theatre Guide for last weeks contest but that was because he was looking well handicapped and I thought the better ground would suit. The fact is he is a smart handicapper and that is some way off Grade 1 class. Thats not to say it wasnt a boost. Tizzard has his team in great form as the festival looms and any win for the yard in a competitive race is a bonus. Id love to see Cue Card win for his likeable connections, but I cant get that niggle out of my mind that you have to really stay to win a Gold Cup. Granted he is staying three miles really well nowadays, but this is three miles two and a half furlongs and up the Cheltenham hill. There are stronger stayers in the race and he may be vulnerable. Zubayr is now one of the favourites for the JCB Triumph Hurdle following his victory in the Adonis Hurdle; is he the horse that you would take out of the race and do you think that he can follow-up at the Festival?I think this years renewal of the Adonis was really strong and as good a trial as we have had for the Triumph on these shores. I was pleased to see Zubayr win in convincing fashion on Saturday. He was bought by bloodstock agent Tom Malone, who is such a good spotter of jumping talent and he had to go to €380,000 to get him for his new owner. Bear in mind trainer Paul Nicholls said the horse had been slow to come to hand and he hadnt even schooled on grass until the day before Kempton, so there will be bags of improvement to come. He isnt a flashy worker by all accounts and in my experience that isnt a bad thing. He turns it on at the track and thats all that matters. Hes now 5/1 second favourite for the Triumph behind Ivanovich Gorbatov, so I hope you got some of the 16/1 I flagged up in last weeks blog! One bet I think is worth having, before everyone else sorts out his handicap runners, is to back Gordon Elliott to be leading trainer at the Cheltenham Festival, in the market without Willie Mullins, for which he is currently a 5/2 chance. The Cheltenham Festival handicap entries were revealed this week, can you give us one handicapper that youre particularly keen on following?Well, you will have to forgive me because the weights only came out on Wednesday this week for the handicaps and Ive set aside Saturday and Sunday this weekend to have a good look at the Cheltenham races. For those of you coming along to the Sky Bet Cheltenham preview evening in Leeds next Wednesday I should have them sorted out by then! If not, Ill be getting it down in writing for you later on next week. The stable tours and Festival preview nights are in full swing, have you picked up any gems from the wealth of information?Last week I highlighted My Tent Or Yours in the Champion Hurdle and Bloody Mary in the new mares novice hurdle race from Nicky Hendersons stable and I havent seen or heard anything to change my mind on that score. My Tent Or Yours is still 7/1 with Sky Bet and Bloody Mary is now 10/1 from 12s with the same firm having attracted some each way support for the new Thursday race (including my £5 each way!). There is so much to wade through, but I was particularly interested to hear from Gordon Elliott. He already has a handful of Festival winners to his name and goes into the meeting with a wealth of good chances. He is sure to have some very well handicapped horses and hopefully Ill unearth one or two over the weekend. One bet I think is worth having, before everyone else sorts out his handicap runners, is to back Elliott to be leading trainer, in the market without Willie Mullins, for which he is currently a 5/2 chance. Sky Racing Tickets Fast, secure racing tickets: Exclusive racing offers near you Theres a valuable card at Newbury this weekend with the Greatwood Gold Cup the feature, whos your fancy?Well this is a race that Paul Nicholls has a very good record in and he looks like hes giving it another good go this year with both Art Mauresque and Sametegal prominent in the market and there is just 1lb between the pair in the ratings.Art Mauresque needs spring ground while at the time of writing, Newbury is good to soft. He has been dropped a few pounds by the handicapper for his last couple of efforts in red hot handicaps at Cheltenham but he doesnt scream out at me to back him at the likely prices should he line up on Saturday. Sametegal is a decent novice and makes his handicap debut over fences on his fifth outing over the larger obstacles.Nicholls has said he doesnt think the horse is desperately well handicapped, but I think hell have had more badly handicapped horses in his yard in the past. He was second in the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle in 2013 off a mark of 144 and connections always hoped hes make up into a decent chaser and he runs on Saturday off a mark of 143. Both horses have the Brown Advisory Plate at Cheltenham as a possible target too and with just 12 days between the two races Im not sure if its possible to do both effectively, so it will be interesting to see who turns up where.Grand Sefton winner Bennys Mist represents Venetia Williams and runs off the same mark as when running a creditable race to be third at Ascot back over regulation fences; still +7lbs from that Aintree win. Ultragold hasnt won as many races as youd have liked since coming over from France, but he won over 2 miles last time out having dropped to a reasonable mark. If hes to win again here he will have to overcome an 11lb rise in the weights, but the step back up in trip wont do him any harm as he has run well over it before and is bred to stay further. Now he has his head in front he has a chance of making the most of the confidence boost and has a good chance of giving trainer Colin Tizzard another decent Saturday winner.Like the Nicholls pair, Little Jon is also in the Brown Advisory Plate at Cheltenham and could go there depending on what happens here according to trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies. He has been well beaten off his current mark on his last two starts at Cheltenham, but returns to the scene of his win back in November which could spark a revival. Last Friday I said on At The Races that I felt Charlie Longsdons horses were about to hit top gear and he duly won with Killala Quay at Kempton on Saturday. Longsdon has Off The Ground entered on Saturday. However, this horse has fallen on two of his past four starts, but was in the process of running well off his current mark when tipping up last time out. Hes not out of it, but is more exposed than some.Samategal is an 8/1 shot with Sky Bet for Paul Nicholls and I think hell run well. That, along with his 32 points -- which tied a career high -- proved too much for Denver to overcome, and the Pelicans held on for their third straight victory, 111-107 on Sunday night. Melbourne cant make the AFL finals this year but Saturdays clash with Geelong will be a significant one for them and Cats coach Chris Scott is expecting fireworks. The Simonds Stadium encounter will be Paul Roos 66th and final home-and-away game in charge at Melbourne before he hands over to coach-in-waiting Simon Goodwin. The Demons late-season push for a finals berth ended last week with a disappointing loss to Carlton. The third-placed Cats need a win on Saturday to guarantee a top-four spot.We assume they would want (Roos) to go out on a winning note ... on paper they dont have as much to play for as us but it doesnt always work out that way, Scott told reporters on Thursday. We expect that their effort and intensity will be really high, but its a really important game for us so we would expect that we would be pretty good in that area too.It certainly wont be a lacklusttre affair heading into a final - it will be really good preparation for us.ddddddddddddYou would expect that they would be a little bit more free in the way that they play this week, which could translate to them being a bit more dangerous.Veteran forward Jimmy Bartel will return for Geelong after being rested for last weeks win over Brisbane.Tall defender Lachie Henderson is battling to play a part in the Cats finals campaign after undergoing minor arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday. Were more hopeful than confident (hell play again this year) ... obviously theres a little bit of water to flow under the bridge with his recovery, Scott said. The jurys out ... well just have to get a bit more information before we can give an accurate forecast.
