OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens had their most significant injury of training camp occur on Thursday, when third-round pick Bronson Kaufusi?likely sustained a season-ending ankle injury.Kaufusi, a defensive end, broke his left ankle after a teammate fell on him during a team drill and was carted off the field.Im sure hell be out for the year, coach John Harbaugh said. This isnt a devastating injury for the Ravens because Kaufusi was running third on the depth chart behind Lawrence Guy and Brent Urban. With 26.5 sacks at BYU, Kaufusi couldve contributed as a pass-rusher as a rookie. The Ravens are considering this a redshirt year for him.[An injury like this] happens for a reason, in my opinion, Harbaugh said. Its an opportunity for him to take the next year and go to work on his body and go to work on becoming a mature NFL football player physically. Hes young. He needs a lot of work on his lower body, strength-wise and flexibility-wise. He was playing well but hes only going to be better next year. Hell be much better a year from now than he wouldve been this year. The third-round pick that the Ravens used on Kaufusi was the one that they couldve traded to the Dallas Cowboys to move up to take cornerback Jalen Ramsey in the first round. But Baltimore would only part with a fourth-round pick and Dallas decided to stay at No. 4. The Ravens eventually selected offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley at No. 6.Baltimore will now go with either Guy or Urban at starting defensive end. The Ravens have been alternating them with the starting defense in training camp. Its tough news, said Urban, who has dealt with major injuries the past two training camps. Its next man up mentality.
