Gary Anderson will finally get off the mark in this years Premier League Darts season in front of his Scottish fans, says Wayne Mardle. The season rolls onto Aberdeen on Thursday at 7pm on Sky Sports 1 HD and features an all-Scottish final match but all eyes will be on reigning champion Anderson who has lost both of his matches so far. Read on to see who Mardle tips this week... Adrian Lewis v James Wade Adrian Lewis will need better luck than this... Is Wade ever in form or out of form? Sometimes hes not playing well, then he wins a major. Then he wont play well, then he beats Michael van Gerwen in the Premier League. I dont know if I ever fancy him to win or not!I dont back against Lewis often unless he plays Phil Taylor, Gary Anderson or Van Gerwen. But bet against Wade with caution - hes the ultimate spoiler. Hes won seven majors, all of them without being the favourite.Prediction: Lewis, but on the premise that Wade plays like he has in the past two weeks. If he plays like he did against Van Gerwen, Lewis wont win. (Evens with Sky Bet)Gary Anderson v Raymond van Barneveld Barney hit a nine-darter in Aberdeen a few years ago... Anderson hasnt played badly but he wont he be concerned by being pointless after two weeks. If hes pointless after four weeks thats a different story. Because the others have played three each were thinking Gary hasnt won yet but he hasnt played his third match.Anderson won a tournament at the weekend. Ive said it before, theyre confidence boosters but thats what he needed. Barney, like Wade is a spoiler.Prediction: I cant see Anderson leaving the venue without two points. I expect Anderson to win and people to say hes on the march again. (8/11 with Sky Bet) Michael Smith v Michael van Gerwen It could be an easy night for Michael van Gerwen, says Mardle If Smith hadnt got anything out of Dave Chisnall last week, he would have then played Van Gerwen, then Phil Taylor, then Anderson. Thats brutal, the Premier League can spoil your career. You can feel like youre not one of the best, even when you are.Im glad Smith is off the mark but he didnt play well against Chisnall. But if he plays to a similar standard against Van Gerwen, he could only win one or two legs. Not very often will I back against Van Gerwen, hes a win machine.Prediction: If Van Gerwen drops three legs in this match, that will be a lot. (MVG -3.5 legs 5/6 with Sky Bet)Phil Taylor v Dave Chisnall Phil Taylor rolled back the years as he thrashed James Wade 7-1 last week Phil picks and chooses which Tour events he plays in, and he won one recently. Then he played well last week in the Premier League. I expect him to just carry on now with the odd blip. Hes not the reliable player that he used to be, but hes still one of the very best.I thought it was interesting last week that he was the favourite to beat the current world champion Anderson, that says a lot. It says a lot about how good Taylor still is.The other guys are now thinking Phil looks confident - hes walking around with a swagger again. Hes only 56 but hes a lot more intimidating than his height gives him!Prediction: Phil did a job on Anderson last week and I think he beats Chisnall too. (4/6 with Sky Bet)Peter Wright v Robert Thornton Peter Wright brought the house down in Dublin after checking out on 161 Youve got to have a Scotsman playing another one! The fans will favour Thornton because Wright has been taken in as an adopted Scotsman, just because he didnt really mention that he was born in Scotland until a few years ago.Robert is a real crowd favourite in Scotland, they love him. Hes the ultimate trier, isnt he? Hes not a show pony. If it meant losing a limb to win a darts match (not his right arm, of course) he would because it means so much to him.Prediction: All said and done, Thornton is the most out-of-form player in the top 16 of world darts. So can he win? No, not on your nellie. (Wright 1/2 with Sky Bet) Wright ready for Scotland Whos the top dog north of the border? Watch Premier League Darts on Thursday at 7pm on Sky Sports 1 HD. Essendon coach John Worsfold says the new-look Bombers deserve to be recognised as frontrunners for a return to the AFL finals. The Bombers have welcomed back ten players, including stars Jobe Watson and Dyson Heppell, from drug bans that kept them sidelined for all of the past season.Add to that this years No.1 draft pick Andy McGrath, a mercurial key forward with massive potential in Joe Daniher and a young midfield star coming off a breakout year in Zach Merrett, and Worsfold has plenty to smile about.Much of the preseason hype has centred on other top-eight hopefuls but Worsfold is confident the Bombers can bounce back strongly from their bottom-placed finish this year.(Finals) has to be realistic, Worsfold said on Tuesday. Were one of (ten) clubs that didnt play finals last year that want to play finals this year. We think we deserve as much recognition as one of the teams that want to challenge for that top eight as Collingwood, Richmond, Melbourne, Carlton or Fremantle. As an experienced hand at the helm of a Bombers side decimated by their long-running supplements saga, Worsfold faced little scrutiny when the team managed just three wins in 2016.That certainly wont be the case in Worsfolds second year at Essendon, and he wouldnt want it any other way.I love (pressure), Worsfold said.Id rather havve that than people saying ah well, youre going to be last again.dddddddddddd Thats not a good position to be in.The better your squad becomes, the more expectation there is, and as coaches, we should be thriving on that.A key priority for the Bombers over the offseason is improving their firepower.Essendon were dead last in scoring last season, averaging just 65.31 points per game, compared to Adelaides competition-leading 112.86.Worsfold is hoping the addition of James Stewart from Greater Western Sydney, the return of swingmen Cale Hooker and Michael Hurley and the continued development of Orazio Fantasia will give Daniher plenty of help. Its certainly an area we have to improve on. Weve struggled to kick scores over the last few years, Worsfold said.Theres been a massive amount of expectation on (Daniher) as a rookie but hes not a rookie anymore. Hes now developed to the point where we know how well he can impact and hes got that support around him now.Its okay having talent there (but) if you dont get it in there quick, it plays into the oppositions hands. We want to move the ball a lot more cleanly through the midfield and from the back half to get it inside 50 quick. ' ' '
